I did once flip shit on a cop. He pulled me for not having a front plate, and ended up giving me a 150 dollar ticket for not having a muffler. I was driving a beat up 20 year old Honda Civic at the time. I was like "Seriously do you really think I have money for this ticket, I could spend that money on, oh I don't know a muffler. You're actually doing the opposite of what you are supposed to do." The thing is usually in Wisconsin they give "fix it tickets" where you have 14 days to fix your broken exhaust, cracked windshield, broken taillight or whatever, that way the problem actually gets fix, rather than just making you pay a fine. I know this because I had gotten them before. Plus a 1.6l with no muffler is still pretty quite, quiter than any Civic with a 2.5" cat back, and a fart can.

so did you flip a shit before he wrote you up for the muffler or afterwards? Do you have any option to write in to contest the fine if it's not in line with procedure?

I've gotten out of so many speeding tickets by being polite and apologetic to the cops, there's no point going off the handle because they're more likely to get annoyed and make your day even worse.

it was after I was very polite before. I'm normally very polite and compliant with the police. Except that one time I ran lol.

yeah that's shit. They can't fine you here for that sort of stuff. They can defect you and tell you to get it fixed or your rego is suspended.
